# E-237                                             ESTATE

Circa 1880's

This "Dusting-Powder Compact" from the 1880's is indeed an exceptional find.

From the Victorian Period, when every lady carried a bit of dusting powder for that occasional freshening up for the gentleman.

This hinged compact is 2-1/4" x 2-1/4" in diameter. It is beautifully "Engine-Turned" (a process of mechanical and hand work, that would that a few hours to apply to this item). On the inside is the the container and moving cover, that is used to insert the powder, and a "shaker hole" that is used to sprinkle the powder onto ones self. Crafted in Nickel Silver, with a chain and "Bow-Ring". This "Bow-Ring was used, to tie the Dusting-Powder Compact" to their dress, if they were without a purse, or it was used as a "finger ring" to "secure" the compact to ones self.

On the front is a oval floral Cloisonné decoration, with a "Black Background". Because of its "black background", it is very possible that this item was also used a "Mourning Jewelry", during a period of mourning after the death of a loved one.

"A Victorian Classic"

Only $240.
